BERYL, Iron County — A man died in a house fire in Iron County on Sunday, while possibly trying to save a dog, sheriff's officials said.
The man, 42, called 911 overnight to say his kitchen was on fire. Emergency crews responded to the house fire at 5200 N. 164 West in Beryl at about 1 a.m., Iron County Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Humphries said.
Investigators suspect the man ran back into his house to save a dog. The man died after succumbing to the smoke, Humphries said. His name has not yet been released.
When crews arrived at the scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames, the Iron County Sheriff's Office said. The dog was outside of the burning home when emergency crews arrived, Humphries said.
The home was a total loss, Humphries added. The building was described as a double-wide manufactured home.
No one else was injured in the fire. No other structures or homes were affected by the blaze, according to authorities.
The sheriff's office said the fire is believed to have started in the area of the kitchen stove, but the investigation is still underway.
