HYRUM, Cache County — Authorities have identified the Cache County couple found dead in their home late Wednesday with gunshot wounds.
Deputies found 37-year-old Heather Preece deceased in a bedroom, and they found her husband Dustin Preece, 38, deceased elsewhere in the house in Hyrum, Sheriff D. Chad Jensen said in a news release.
Authorities have not released the address of the home.
"After meeting with the medical examiner and reviewing evidence, the sheriff's office has determined they believe that Dustin Preece shot his wife and then took his own life in an apparent murder-suicide," Jensen said in a statement later Thursday.
The couple's 16-year-old daughter discovered the bodies, Jensen said.
"This is a terrible incident that happened in our peaceful community, but especially for the 16-year-old daughter who discovered the scene. Victims' advocates are working closely with her and the family to get them the services they may need," the sheriff said.
"As our family grieves the loss of our loved ones, we appreciate the outpouring of love from the community. At this time we ask that you respect our privacy and most especially the privacy of their child. We will not be accepting visitors at this time," the Preece family said in a statement released by the Cache County Attorney's Office.
