SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Stars, the Utah Jazz's G League affiliate, has hired former Marquette coach Steve Wojciechowski as head coach, the organization announced Friday.

Wojciechowski, 46, will replace Scott Morrison, who has been promoted to Will Hardy's staff with the Jazz, per sources.

Wojciechowski won't be moving far to take the new job, either. He has been living in Park City since being let go by Marquette following the 2020-21 season.

"It is special that this opportunity comes in the place I have grown to love," he said in a statement. "I am looking forward to working with the Jazz and Stars staff to foster an environment of growth and development for the players in the program as we pursue a G League championship. I am eager to get started in preparation for the 2023-24 season."

Wojciechowski comes from the famed Mike Krzyzewski coaching tree. He began his coaching career in 1999 at Duke, where he served as both an assistant and associate head coach under Krzyzewski. Wojciechowski was also an assistant on the USA National senior team from 2006 to 2014, helping the United States win the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.

He took over at Marquette in 2014, where he coached for seven seasons. In those years, Wojciechowski had a 128-95 record and made two trips to the NCAA Tournament and one NIT appearance.

"The goal in our coaching search was to find a teacher with a high basketball acumen who could connect well with our players, and we have found that with Steve," said Marquis Newman, General Manager of the Salt Lake City Stars. "We are excited to welcome a dynamic coach like Wojo and benefit from his 22 years of experience developing NBA-level talent. We look forward to having him lead our team and continue to develop the Stars program as a tool for our young players in the Utah Jazz organization."

As for Morrison, the move to Hardy's staff will serve as a return to the NBA. Morrison was an assistant to Brad Stevens in Boston for four seasons from 2017-21.
