HERRIMAN — The first day of the Utah lacrosse state championship finals at Zions Bank Stadium did not disappoint.

Girls 6A final

The Lone Peak Knights came back to defeat the Mountain Ridge Sentinels 11-10 just a mile from their campus on Thursday in the first girls final. A goal from Mickelle Cook with 36 seconds left completed the comeback as the Knights secured the 6A trophy.

The game was close throughout, with Cook tying it up in the first half 5-5 before Sentinel captain Tessa Mortensen scored with under a minute to go to give Mountain Ridge a 6-5 halftime lead.

There were four ties in the second half, but Lone Peak did not lead until the final goal of the game.

"We knew it was gonna be battle of whoever could just get that ball in the bowl, because both teams have such a strong defense," Lone Peak head coach Weslie Lundell said. "But we also have such strong attacks and midfields as well, so we really just wanted to focus on getting the draw and keeping that possession on the attack."

Girls 4A final

No. 1 seed Bear River and No. 2 seed Mountain Crest met up in the 4A final following a lightning delay at Zion Bank Stadium for the second game on Thursday.

The higher seed, Bear River, ended up controlling the northern Utah matchup from start to finish, leading 14-3 at halftime and winning the championship game 19-7.

Girls 5A final

Third-seeded Park City upset No. 1 Olympus in the final game of the day by coming back from a halftime deficit to secure the Miners' second title in three years and sixth since 2015.

Park City trailed 4-3 at halftime but outscored Olympus 9-4 in the second half to run away with a decisive 12-8 win to close things out at Zions Bank Stadium on Thursday.

The boys championships games will commence Friday at 3 p.m. MDT.
