LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON — A man died in a fall that happened while he was skiing in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Saturday, police said.

Unified police received a call about 1 p.m. Saturday reporting that a skier had fallen down the side of the mountain near Lisa Falls. The skier "tumbled a significant distance" before ending up at the base of the mountain, Unified police spokesman Ken Hansen said.

Other skiers located the man and performed CPR. Search and rescue crews, as well as members of the Unified Police Department, were sent to the scene where they also attempted life-saving measures, Hansen said.

The skier was hoisted out of the canyon by a Life Flight helicopter but ultimately did not survive, Hansen said.

The man has not been publicly identified.
