WEST VALLEY CITY — A driver is dead following a chain-reaction crash involving five cars.
The crash occurred at 3500 South and approximately 2400 West in West Valley City on Friday about 5:20 p.m., according to the West Valley City Police Department. The other involved parties have minor injuries.
West Valley Police Lt. Jason Vincent that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
"We believe it was a pretty hard impact. We don't know if it was a medical issue," Vincent said.
He also said the crash was an "accordion style, rear-end type" of collision.
"Right before the holidays is extremely hard on families," Vincent said. "We just encourage the general motoring public to just strive to pay attention."
Eastbound 3500 South was closed from 2200 West to 2400 West while police investigated the crash.
Further details, including the identity of the person who died, were not available Friday.
