A BIRDCAGE — If you thought cats' mortal enemies include birds, mice and any other small thing that moves, you're probably right.

But there are exceptions to nearly every rule in nature, according to the internet, and love prevailed when one lovebird named Chicken found friendship with his two cat brothers.

This adorable video opens with the colorful little bird jumping around outside a litter box, appearing about as concerned as a bird can.

"Let him go potty without you. He's gonna be OK. He's OK," the animals' owner can be heard saying in the background.

The woman said she adopted the bird in 2020, and she later saw a post about a "big, fluffy" cat named Frank who reportedly loved birds and bird videos, so the woman brought him home to "see how it goes."

It sounds like a risky enterprise, but the lovebird quickly latched on to Frank, and would remain attached to his collar. And Frank allowed it. So their owner introduced another ginger cat into the mix, and they formed a cat-and-bird crew until Frank's passing about a year later, according to the video posted by The Dodo.

Lovebirds are a type of parrot that form "close bonds" with each other, according to Petco. Animal experts recommend adopting them in pairs because of their need for companionship. They can live more than 15 years if well-cared for, according to the website.

When Frank sadly got sick and died, the lovebird and the other cat, Pugsley, helped each other through the loss of their friend.

"Everyone's like, 'I don't understand. And I'm like, 'I don't either. I just live here,'" their owner says.

This heartwarming story makes me want to look into getting a bird. But based on how rough my two cats are with each other — whom they love — I don't think a bird would survive more than two minutes in my household.
