SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's COVID-19 count continued to fall this week as health officials reported 3,143 new cases.
The daily average for new cases was 449 — a slight drop over the previous week's average of 506 per day. Confirmed cases are an undercount due to the prevalence of people taking at-home tests, which do not get reported to the state.
The Utah Department of Health and Human Services also confirmed 15 additional deaths.
Other metrics showed decreases in virus levels, but the percentage of wastewater testing facilities with increased or elevated levels of virus fell dramatically compared to the previous several weeks. This week, 23.5% of sites are showing increased or elevated levels compared to 67.6% the previous week. Officials in Utah used to provide a more accurate picture of disease prevalence.
The percentage of emergency room visitors with the coronavirus stood at 2.7% this week. On Thursday, 157 patients across Utah's hospitals tested positive for COVID-19.
