SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department's Motor Squad recently conducted a speed enforcement operation focusing on roads "leading in and out of the city."
During the operation, officers made 122 traffic stops and issued 96 citations and 22 warnings, the majority of which were for speeding, according to police. It was unknown what happened with the other four drivers who were stopped.
In one case, a woman was stopped for going 98 mph in a 40 mph zone, police said in a statement. That woman told the officer she was late for a job interview.
The speed enforcement effort involved 10 five-hour shifts over three days. Details on which roads drivers were pulled over were not provided Tuesday. Police said "many" drivers were caught going at least 25 mph above the speed limit, including people who were racing each other, but they provided no further details about those incidents.
As of Tuesday, there have been 15 fatal crashes in Salt Lake City so far this year.
