OCEAN AVENUE — Summer movie season is one of the most magical times of the year for me. It is when all the Hollywood studios drop their best bets on the movie-going public with the hope their cinematic gambles will pay off.
This year is already off to a great start with "Top Gun: Maverick" and now "The Bob's Burgers Movie." I'll admit that I am a huge fan of the TV show, so deciding to go see this film was a no-brainer for me.
Although I am not writing the full-blown movie review for "The Bob's Burgers Movie" — I've left that up to John Clyde — I will say this: If you are a fan of "Bob's Burgers" in general, you will not be let down by this feature-length film.
Keep in mind this film is PG-13, which, if we are being honest, is not a big surprise. But if you are wondering if this is appropriate for your kids to watch, let me help you out with what you can expect to see and hear in this film.
There are a fair amount of minor swears in this movie. Some of the dialog references male genitalia but it's not graphic in nature and, in my opinion, they are some of the funniest jokes. I would say the biggest thing to watch out for is the innuendo of this movie, as these jokes are designed for adults. So, you may get some questions from younger viewers as to what they mean.
There is very little violence in this movie, other than one scene in which we see the cartoon skeleton of a dead carnival worker fall on top of one of the main characters and his teeth fall into her mouth. There are also some scenes where the bad guy holds children hostage with a toy crossbow.
Again, this movie is mild in all of the categories parents might be concerned about. But, here are a few things you should be aware of:
But let me be clear here: The things you'll see and hear in this movie are nothing worse than you're likely to see on network TV.
"The Bob's Burgers Movie" is a great movie for "Bob's Burgers" fans. If you let your kids watch the TV show, you know what to expect. You may get a question or two about some of the innuendos, so that will fall on you as to how you want to address that with your kids.
My recommendation to fans of the show is that it is a fun extension of the series and you should probably see it.
