FARMINGTON — Police are investigating a fatal crash on northbound I-15 that closed multiple lanes of the freeway Saturday night.

A man was riding his motorcycle at "a higher rate of speed than the rest of traffic, kind of going around cars" around 8:50 p.m. when traffic ahead of him began to slow and he didn't slow down in time, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Mike Alexander. The man then struck the back of a vehicle causing him to be ejected from the motorcycle and was then hit by another car.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The crash closed all but the right lane of the freeway starting near the Parrish Lane exit in Centerville until about midnight while Utah Highway Patrol troopers investigated the crash.

The motorcyclist's identity has not yet been released.
