SALT LAKE CITY — The National Association of Broadcasters awarded local radio station KSFI with its prestigious Crystal Award for community service.
"FM100.3's purpose is to build up, connect, inform and celebrate our families and communities," Sue Kelley, director of programming for KSFI, said in a statement.
She said the station worked last year "to deepen our connection to the community," and to reach out to those at risk.
The Crystal Radio Award finalists were chosen by a panel of judges representing broadcasting, community service organizations and public relations firms. FM100.3 was one of just 10 stations across the country to receive the award as winners were announced on Tuesday. It marks the second time the station has received the award.
Last year, the station participated in several community service and advocacy projects, including the Out of Darkness charity walk for suicide prevention. It also created an Armed Forces Family Day to give military families community support, and worked to uplift health care workers by championing Nurses Week.
FM100.3 provided a month of free, daily heart health messaging as the pandemic caused fewer people to get routine health screenings. The station also worked to connect at-risk women to free mammogram resources during live remotes and more than 765 minutes of radio spots, among other efforts to improve community health.
KSFI is owned by Bonneville International, a sister company of Deseret Digital Media, which owns KSL.com.
