RANDOLPH, Rich County — Law enforcement in Rich County say a group of teenage boys discovered the body of a missing Layton woman last week.
On April 8, members of the Rich County Sheriff's Office received a call that four teenage boys were riding dirt bikes when they found a body roughly 5 miles west of Randolph, according to a statement issued by the sheriff's office on Thursday.
Rich County deputies responded to the scene and later called for help from Weber County deputies and crime scene investigators. Investigators could not identify the body immediately but said appeared to be that of a young woman.
An autopsy was later performed by the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner. The medical examiner's office used fingerprints to identify the woman as 22-year-old Sophia Lower, who was reported missing out of Layton on March 29, according to police.
A Rich County dispatcher told KSL.com on Friday that the cause of the woman's death was not immediately known, and it was unknown when the medical examiner's office would finalize its report.
