DRAPER — A second man has died from injuries he sustained from being shot during a weekend party in Draper that was held at an Airbnb rental home.
Just after 1 a.m. Sunday as a party was winding down at 11464 Cranberry Hill (280 East), an uninvited guest got into an argument with another person in the street outside the house. During the altercation, the uninvited guest pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds, said Draper Police Lt. Dustin Willie.
One witness said at least 10 shots were heard.
Two people were shot. One man, believed to be the intended target, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other, a bystander, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Police say the gunman then attempted to carjack some of the partygoers before leaving in a vehicle that investigators believe was either his or a friend's.
Draper police announced Monday that the second man has died, but did not have information about when he passed away. The two victims were identified Monday as Austin Terry Powell, 27, and Jonathan July Fuentes, 21. Police declined to say which man was believed to be the intended target.
As of Monday, no arrests have been made. Investigators are looking for a Hispanic man with a stocky build who has tattoos on his face, including "801" tattooed over one of his eyebrows, Willie said, noting that detectives have several leads as to his possible identity.
Since Sunday, detectives have interviewed many of the people who were at the party, he said. Anyone with information about the shooting or who was at the party is encouraged to call police at 801-840-4000.
Neighbors said the home had only been on Airbnb for a few weeks. The owner took the listing down after the shooting and told neighbors it won't be up for short-term rental again.
