FARR WEST, Weber County— Police have arrested one man after they said he shot at another vehicle and led police on a multi-county, high speed chase on Sunday afternoon.
The man was northbound on I-15 near Farr West when he allegedly shot at least three rounds at another vehicle around 4:55 p.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cade Brenchley. The driver of the vehicle that was shot at gave police the license plate number for the vehicle he accused of shooting at him. No bullets actually struck that vehicle.
Police began to follow the suspect vehicle while waiting for additional backup, Brenchley said. The vehicle later exited I-15 and made its was into Sardine Canyon toward Cache County at a high speed, reaching 100 mph on I-15 and over 80 mph in the canyon, the trooper said.
A trooper in Cache County successfully set up spikes to stop the vehicle. "At that point, the vehicle lost control, ran off the road, did roll, and came to a rest on its wheels," Brenchley said.
Police then performed a "felony stop," where they approached the vehicle with their guns drawn, according to Brenchley.
The man was taken to the hospital. Brenchley said he will eventually be released to police custody.
Troopers found four loaded firearms — three handguns and one rifle — in the man's car, Brenchley said.
The sergeant did not release the man's name. The investigation is ongoing.
