The car market is undergoing major changes right now. Supply chain issues, chip shortages, gas prices — it's hard to know what the future holds for cars. There is one thing certain about the car market, though: the future is largely electric.

Reuters reports major manufacturers have announced expenditures of about $500 billion for the development of electric vehicles and are expecting most of their model lineup to be electric in the coming years. Many of these vehicles are already on the market and available at Ken Garff dealerships. While EVs might not be right for everyone (yet), there are many good reasons to buy one right now.

First, MarketWatch reports that EVs offer long-term savings over traditional, internal combustion vehicles. EVs have become more affordable in recent years, and offer a myriad of cost savings on things like gas and maintenance over their internal combustion siblings.

Charging with electricity is much cheaper than filling a tank with gas, and with fewer complex parts, maintenance costs much less than what it would on an internal combustion vehicle.

Second, with more EVs hitting the market, there are more charging stations than ever. Technology has improved so much that Kelley Blue Book reports that some EVs can reach 80% of a full charge in less than 20 minutes — or, about the average time of road trip gas station stop. Additionally, the convenience of home charging lends a sense of peace of mind that you'll never be without the charge you need.

Lastly, EVs are no longer relegated to the gonzo, egg-shaped designs of the past. Instead, modern EVs are available in a variety of body styles. Everything from luxury sedans to compact, affordable hatchbacks and sports cars to SUVs and trucks, there are EVs for every preference and driving need.

If you haven't yet considered an EV, maybe you should. Here are just a few of the new EVs on sale, all of which you can find at your local Ken Garff dealership.

Audi e-tron models

Audi's been ahead of the game recently, rolling out several EV vehicles for consumers. From the Q4 e-tron family to the e-tron family, to the e-tron S family and the e-tron GT family, Audi has made sure they have something for everyone looking at the brand's EV lineup.

The experts at Edmunds.com have nothing but positive things to say about the 2022 e-tron. "Wow. Need we say more? The e-tron is one comfortable machine. Its air suspension delivers a sophisticated and stable ride on a variety of road surfaces, and the cabin is oh-so-quiet without feeling like a sensory-deprivation chamber," writes Cameron Rogers.

If you want to try one out for yourself, you can find all of the Ken Garff e-tron listings here.

Chevrolet Silverado EV

The Chevy Silverado EV is a game-changing electric pickup with up to 510 horsepower and an 8,000-pound towing capacity. According to Forbes, "In the spring of 2023, the Silverado EV will debut a WT model with an estimated range of over 400 miles. Fall of 2023, a fully loaded RST First edition model will debut, after which Chevrolet will unleash the full Silverado EV portfolio."

Ford Mustang Mach-E and F150 Lightning

One of the most divisive vehicles in recent memory, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is an impressive and stylish EV first effort from Ford. Sure, it's not your typical Mustang, but the Mach-E has a lot to offer to those willing to give it a shot.

Zach Doell of U.S. News states in his review, "The all-electric 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E ranks near the top of the hybrid and electric SUV class, thanks to its poised handling, quick acceleration, lengthy driving range, roomy and upscale interior, and user-friendly features"

Ford estimates it can go about 314 miles on a full charge. Add that to the sporty performance and signature Mustang styling, the Mustang Mach-E is worth your consideration.

Oh, and Ford is releasing their electric version of the F-150, the Lightning. With all the utility of the fan-favorite F-150 and the benefits of an EV, the Lightning is already a huge hit.

Hummer

Who doesn't love a good, nostalgic revival? While the original and second-generation Hummers were much maligned for their inefficiency, the new GMC Hummer is going full EV. With 1,000 horsepower and a price tag of well over $100,000, the Hummer is the ultimate statement machine.

Mercedes-Benz EQS

Mercedes-Benz isn't known to skimp on luxury, and the brand's new EQS redefines electric luxury to the nth degree. Featuring a 56" curved "hyper screen" in the front, LED lighting available in 64 colors, an advanced aromatherapy filtration system, seductive styling and robust power, the EQS is the EV for those who have to have it all.

The pros at Motor Trend had a lot to say about the EQS. They said, "It's refreshing to experience an electric car without any performative gimmicks. The EQS … doesn't try to outdo other electrics' driving ranges. The EQS merely translates Mercedes-Benz's 120-plus years of carmaking from gas to electric power."

Porsche Taycan

It's been a long time coming, but Porsche has made its debut in the EV scene and it's a showstopper. The Taycan is a sleek, svelte, high-performance EV with the soul of a Porsche. Available in a variety of trims and Turismo and Sport Turismo configurations, the Taycan is the answer for those wanting the latest in EV engineering from one of the world's most respected manufacturers.

The folks at Top Gear summarized the Taycan's appeal when they said, "Stuttgart's first EV is a proper Porsche – massively fast, great to drive, quick to charge and practical enough to use every day."

Volkswagen ID.4

Volkswagen has historically been one of the top-selling manufacturers in the world, and with all that cash it was a matter of time before they rolled out their take on the EV. The ID.4 is Volkwagen's first dip into the EV pool and it showcases the brand's efforts to make electric vehicles accessible to people across demographics.

"On the outside, clean aerodynamic lines make for a striking presence on the road," says the Volkswagen website. "On the inside, plenty of room makes for a spacious, comfortable cabin–it will transform how you think about electric cars."

Hyundai Ioniq 5

Hyundai's really been going for it the last few years, and nowhere is that more evident than in the new Ioniq 5. With its unique and forward-thinking styling, and a long list of standard features, the Ioniq 5 is an exciting take on the electric vehicle.

CNET echoed this new take on the EV segment, saying, "What you see is what you get. And what you get is awesome: Great on the road and great on the eyes, the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has already catapulted itself to the top of an ever-growing pile of attractive, capacious battery-electric vehicles."

The Ioniq 5 also has over 300 miles of range and is one of the most spacious and feature-rich cabins on the market. If you're looking for one of the coolest EVs on sale today, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 deserves a second look.

Nissan LEAF

The LEAF is on its way out, soon to be replaced by the Ariya, but the Nissan LEAF is still an interesting, affordable EV for those on a budget. Starting at just over $27,000 and with a base range of 149 miles, the LEAF is ready for you to take it home.

Cameron Rogers of Edmunds.com summarized the LEAF nicely when he said, "The Nissan Leaf gets a lot right. Its range of 150 or 226 miles, depending on the model, is sufficient for most EV shoppers. It's also quiet and has some useful technology features that can make driving in heavy traffic easier and less tiring."

Volvo XC40

While the XC40 offers some internal combustion engines in addition to its fully-electric version, the Volvo XC40 is the brand's first fully-electric SUV designed from the ground up to only be an EV. The XC40 doesn't just look great, either. It's built with sustainability and connectivity in mind. If it's an environmentally-minded EV you're looking for, Volvo's new XC40 is sure to capture your attention.

In his CNET review, Daniel Golson summarized his experience with the C40 nicely when he said, "The C40's styling and purchase process won't be for everyone, but for design-conscious and tech-forward folk that want a solid EV, this new Volvo is a great option — and it foreshadows a lot of what's to come from the brand's more mainstream offerings."
