THE ELEPHANT COMEDY CLUB — Practical jokes have never been my strong suit. Believe me, I tried; it just never worked out well.
I once Saran-wrapped my dad's toilet. It worked, but none of us were happy with the result.
One year on April Fools' Day, my older brother dumped water all over me to wake me up in the morning. A year later, I tried to do the same to him but got the bowl too full, making it very heavy. My brother woke up and pushed the bowl, spilling water all over me. The thing was already wavering, so it didn't take much.
As I said, I'm no good. If I pull it off, it's not funny. If it was going to be funny, I'll find a way to mess it up. This video showed me I have a lot to learn from an elephant.
This is Mac, the elephant. Mac lives in a safari park in Zimbabwe, southern Africa. A woman was taking a photo with Mac when he decided her big hat looked delicious. The video shows him snatching it off the top of her head with his trunk and popping that thing into his mouth. No doubt the haberdasher of the Panama hat was not pleased to see his or her work go into the mouth of the largest land mammal, but the owner of said headwear seemed to be a good sport about it.
Then, after everyone had a good laugh, Mac pulls the hat from his mouth and kindly gives it back to the woman.
This elephant has better comedic timing, practical jokes and manners than I do. Writing this, I realized I have a lot more to figure out in my life. For example, I know what a haberdasher does and what a Panama is, but I can't pull off a practical joke.
