SALT LAKE CITY — Four people were injured, one person in critical condition, after a wrong-way crash between a car and semitruck Sunday morning.

Troopers responded to reports of a serious crash about 2:51 a.m. where they found a car with two people had been traveling southbound on northbound I-215 West at 600 South near the I-80 interchange when it collided with the semitruck.

The semitruck became engulfed in flames and the car spun off the freeway to the right shoulder, according to a statement by Utah Highway Patrol.

Neither occupants of the car were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The driver was in fair condition and the passenger was in extremely critical condition when transported to the hospital, the statement said.

The two people in the semitruck were transported in good condition.

Impairment is being investigated as a possible cause of the crash, according to the statement.

The road was closed about 5:30 a.m., Utah Highway Patrol officials said in a tweet.

The road is closed and traffic is diverted to state Route 201 and California Avenue.

The closure is expected to last into the 10 o'clock hour.
