SALT LAKE CITY — Two Weber State University police officers were hit by a vehicle and seriously injured Wednesday, after the officers responded to an accident involving two cars.

The officers pulled over to check on the accident that was partially blocking the HOV lane on southbound I-15 near 700 South, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden.

While checking on the accident, a third car pushed one of the cars into the officers.

Both officers are being treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The freeway in that area remains closed while the crash is investigated and cleared. It is estimated to reopen about 4 p.m., the Utah Department of Transportation said.
