HYPE TOWN — It's interesting how time, age and circumstance will change the things we get excited about.

For my fifth birthday, I remember getting beyond pumped because I was going to get some SilverHawks action figures for my present (for those who remember SilverHawks, you'll understand my excitement). When I turned 10, I remember getting my first bike that wasn't a hand-me-down. As a teenager, I was jazzed to get my driver's license.

All normal things, but always changing.

It's when I got into my 20s things really started getting weird. I remember being a little too excited when they started making SpongeBob Square Pants Kraft macaroni and cheese — and I stand by that as the best version of Kraft Mac and Cheese. Every time I saw it in the store, I'd feel my heart quicken.

I then got excited to become a dad, and shortly thereafter I got excited for the times I got to leave the kids with a sitter. In fact, the last time I got really excited was about a week ago when I was out of town with no kids. I saw the hotel bed and started playing hype music as I announced myself to the piece of furniture: "Now, welcome to the land of slumber the 6-foot-3 super senior out of Sandy, Utah, John Clyde! He loves sandwiches, the month of May, and sleeping in! He has no kids to wake him up at dawn-30, so he will be lying in the bed for the next 12 to 16 hours!"

I then jumped around the room, pointed to the bedside lamp, followed by a high-five to the mini-fridge, and then leaped onto the bed and fell asleep with my shoes on. Like I said, circumstances change what excites us.

For the BYU basketball team, they're no doubt excited for their match-up in the first round of the NCAA tournament against UCLA Saturday night. But prior to the game, they got pumped about their COVID-19 tests.

This video shows the team getting intros from one of the health care professionals administering the tests. As their names are called, the players, and coach, jump down the tunnel of hands and flex before stepping in another room to spit in a cup.

I'm sure none of these guys thought they'd be this pumped about taking a saliva test, but 2020 has changed a lot of things. Let's now hope they can take that energy into the game against the Bruins.
