AMERICAN FORK — Authorities on Wednesday identified a body located in American Fork Canyon as an overdue hiker who was last seen on Sunday.

The body of Robert "Bobby" Healey, 28, was located Tuesday morning after an airplane pilot spotted footprints in the snow in the search area near where Healey's car was found, according to a Utah County Sheriff's Office press release. Utah Department of Public Safety crews searched the area where the footprints were seen and located the victim at an elevation of around 7,200 feet below a rocky cliff.

The release stated that Healey's body showed significant trauma consistent with falling while climbing somewhere near the top of the cliff. The body was hoisted off the mountain and transported to the state medical examiner's office for identification, Cannon said.

Utah County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team, along with helicopters from Intermountain Life Flight and the Utah Department of Public Safety, searched the mountains near the mouth of American Fork Canyon late into the night Monday for Healey, of Saratoga Springs. Crews called off the search overnight before resuming on Tuesday.

Cannon said search teams on the mountain used heavy-duty flashlights during the search in addition to the helicopters' large spotlights.

Family and friends said Healey, an avid hiker, was not equipped for a long outing and was last seen alive around noon on Sunday.
