HEBER — One person died and another person was injured following a head-on collision on U.S. Route 40 on Saturday.
Officials received reports on the crash, 13 miles south of Heber, at 6:10 p.m. Saturday evening, Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Tara Wahlberg said.
A small passenger sedan crossed from the westbound lane into the eastbound lane, colliding with an oncoming pickup truck, according to a statement from the Utah Department of Public Safety.
"The driver of the sedan was pinned and pronounced deceased by medical personnel," the statement read. "The driver of the pickup truck sustained incapacitating injuries and is expected to recover."
Investigators are looking into alcohol to be a contributing factor with the deceased driver, according to the DPS statement. Witnesses told officials they saw the sedan swerving prior to driving into oncoming traffic.
The man who died was identified Monday as Robert Hoff, 54, of Fort Duchesne, according to the highway patrol.
Both directions of U.S. Route 40 at milepost 34 were temporarily closed for several hours to clear the crash but have since reopened.
