SANDY — Jordan High School, Layton High School and Weber High School are all transitioning to online learning due to an increase in COVID-19 cases, their districts announced on Friday.

All three schools will begin remote learning on Monday, Dec. 14, with a return to in-person learning following Winter Break on Jan. 4.

Layton High School is currently reporting 23 positive COVID-19 cases, according to the Davis School District COVID-19 dashboard. The district has had 487 positive cases over the last 14 days, with 1,787 individuals currently in quarantine.

Canyons School District announced that the decision for Jordan High to pivot from in-person learning was made on Friday following a meeting with Salt Lake County Health Department. Jordan High recently returned to in-person learning on Nov. 30. According to the school district's COVID-19 dashboard, the school is reporting 2.1% positive cases with 149 individuals in quarantine over the last 14 days.

In a Friday press release, Weber School District announced that Weber High School currently has 19 positive cases. Weber High School had returned to in-person learning on Nov. 19.

Gov. Gary Herbert said on Thursday that teachers and other school staff would be moved to the front of the line to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. Herbert said that the altered timeline would help schools avoid the disruptive "ping pong effect" of moving back and forth between in-person and at-home instruction.
