HERRIMAN — Police shot and killed a man they say "presented a threat" to officers during an altercation, authorities say.
At approximately 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night Herriman police responded to a reported violation of a protective order, a statement from Herriman police stated. The incident was on the 5300 West block of Solafax Lane, and while en route officers received word that a man was armed, the statement said.
As they arrived at the scene, the two officers heard several gunshots. They encountered and challenged the man, who, according to the release, "presented a threat and was engaged by two officers from the Herriman City Police Department."
No officers were injured, and the man died on scene, the statement said.
Herriman police identified the man on Wednesday afternoon as Isaac Lemoine Christensen, 38, of Salt Lake City.
The officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with policy.
The Salt Lake County Officer-Involved Critical Incident Protocol has been invoked and Team 2, a multi-jurisdictional team of investigators and police from throughout the valley excluding the police department of involved agencies, is investigating the incident.
The investigation will be presented to the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office for review upon its completion.
All Herriman police officers wear body cameras, and all available evidence will be turned over to the protocol team, the statement said.
