FLORIDA, OF COURSE —Two seconds is really fast.
I mean, it takes a full 5 seconds for food to become contaminated when it falls on the floor — at least, I think that's what science says. And it takes Usain Bolt nearly 10 seconds to run 100 meters. That's almost 5 times longer than 2 seconds. See, I know maths.
The point is, it's hard to see anything happen in 2 seconds. But I'm here to tell you that something incredible can happen in that tiny time frame.
This video is 36 seconds long, but that's only because it shows the same 2 seconds over and over again. That's OK because it's an awesome 2 seconds. When you explain it, it doesn't seem that great: lightning hits a tree. But it looks so impressive!
The video captures the lightning bolt perfectly, and that poor palm tree never knew what hit it. Thankfully, the damage was contained to pretty much just a couple of broken branches (and maybe some sore eardrums from around the neighborhood).
There is something about watching the power and speed of that lightning bolt and realizing that something so powerful and awe-inspiring can happen so suddenly and anywhere at any time.
Now, go bet your friends and loved ones so you can impress them with one of the coolest things they will see in a while. I'm confident they won't be disappointed.
