WEST JORDAN — A 29-year-old man was found dead inside a burning car parked at Jordan Landing on Friday morning, police said.
About 11:20 a.m., a fire department employee was driving to work near 7500 S. Jordan Landing Boulevard when he saw a black Toyota Prius off the side of the road. The car was smoking and had visible heat waves coming from it, according to West Jordan Police Lt. Rich Bell.
The employee stopped to help, grabbed a fire extinguisher, and broke out the window, Bell said. The employee put out the car fire and then noticed a body in the car.
Firefighters and police officers arrived shortly after and determined the man in the car was dead, Bell said.
Investigators said Friday afternoon the man died by apparent suicide. Detectives initially investigated the incident as a “suspicious death."
Out of respect for the man and his family’s privacy, police said the man's name will not be released.
