SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Li Haotong (lee how-TAHNG’) is the surprise leader heading into the third round of the PGA Championship. The fun-loving 25-year-old is the first Chinese golfer to lead any round at a major championship, thanks to his bogey-free 65 yesterday at TPC Harding Park. Going low in a big event is nothing new — he shot a final-round 63 at the 2017 British Open to finish third at a similarly cool, windy Royal Birkdale layout. The question is whether he can hold off Brooks Koepka (KEHP’-kuh), Jason Day and a pack of seasoned pursuers.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The entire three-game series between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis this weekend has been postponed after two more Cardinals players and a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. Major League Baseball made the announcement hours after calling off last night’s game at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals have been off since last Friday, when two players returned positive coronavirus tests. Eight players in total have tested positive, including star catcher Yadier Molina. St. Louis is next scheduled to play Monday at home against Pittsburgh. The Cubs next play Tuesday at Cleveland.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Gerrit Cole tries for his 20th straight regular-season win when he pitches for the Yankees this afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader at Tampa Bay. Cole’s streak dates to May 2019 with Houston and is the sixth-longest in big league history. The right-hander is 3-0 with a 2.55 ERA in three starts since signing a $324 million, nine-year contract with New York. Right-hander Tyler Glasnow pitches for the Rays. Both teams will rely their bullpens in the second game.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Marlins have rapidly become the most surprising team in the majors and now try for their seventh win in a row when they take on the Mets at Citi Field tonight. Miami is 7-1 overall, and 5-0 since missing more than a week because of the team’s coronavirus outbreak. The Marlins keep winning despite already using 43 players, including 25 pitchers, to maintain a full roster amid COVID-19 concerns. Miami was 57-105 last year.

UNDATED (AP) — Washington running back Derrius Guice (GYS) has been released by the team after he was charged in multiple domestic violence incidents. The Loudoun County, Virginia, Sheriff’s Department said Guice was arrested on one count of strangulation, three counts of assault and battery and one count of destruction of property. The department said it became aware in July of incidents in February, March and April. The 23-year-old Guice turned himself in and was released on $10,000 bond. The team says it learned of one incident Thursday, alerted the NFL and released him after learning of the multiple charges yesterday.
