PROVIDENCE, Cache County — Two people are dead after what deputies are describing as an apparent murder-suicide and a domestic violence incident that happened overnight.
Dispatchers received a call from someone who said they were on the phone with a 38-year-old woman when they heard her scream "No!" followed by possible gunshots. Deputies responded about 11:45 p.m. Friday to find the woman deceased, apparently from gunshot wounds.
"The apartment complex was cleared and secured" with the help of Logan police and the Utah Highway Patrol, Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen said in a news release Saturday. A witness heard the shots and heard a vehicle drive away. Investigators identified the victim's ex-husband as a suspect in the shooting, along with places where he may have fled.
With the help of a SWAT team and crisis negotiators, deputies discovered the man's location; however, SWAT determined with a robot that the man had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the home.
"This is still an ongoing investigation and no additional information will available until the investigation is complete," Jensen wrote. "The victim and (suspect's) names will not be released at this time."
