SALT LAKE CITY — A man previously under investigation for child sex abuse has been arrested and accused of distributing child pornography.
Michael Richard Clayton, 35, was arrested by the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children task force on Tuesday for investigation of 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
The investigation began March 16 when investigators received files of child pornography being distributed over a peer-to-peer program, according to a police affidavit.
On Tuesday, members of the task force served a search warrant on Clayton’s home “in the Salt Lake area.”
“Several file names indicative of child pornography were found on Clayton’s computer. Clayton admitted to using the P2P program that distributed child pornography,” according to the affidavit.
The girls in the files being distributed were between the ages of 3 and 10, the affidavit states.
Investigators also noted in the report that “in the fall of 2019, Clayton was accused of sexually abusing a 4-year-old female child.”
Police have requested that Clayton be held in the Salt Lake County Jail without bail.
