Shelley Osterloh ReportingMany of us struggle when it comes to managing our finances and being prepared for the financial challenges an illness or job lay off can cause. A group of women in Ogden today got some special insight in to how to be smart about money.

About 200 women from the Ogden area gathered for the Smart Women Smart Money conference. Half a dozen speakers shared their advice on money management, estate planning, and career development. Experts from Zions Bank say some of the most common mistakes women make are not learning enough about finances... and not be assertive enough in their careers.

Lori Chillingworth, Zions Bank Women's Financial Group: "I think the most common mistake I see is that women don't take the initiative to educate themselves. In the past we've always believed that someone else is going to take care of us, and that's just not the case anymore. With the amount of divorces that are happening and we end up as widows and we are not prepared in time of emergency."

If you are interested, there is another Smart Women Smart Money Conference scheduled for October 11th at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, and Jean Chatsky, the Money Reporter for NBC, will be one of the speakers. It's free to attend.
