A new jury was selected in the trial of a man accused of running over and killing his wife a year ago. Both the prosecution and the defense presented opening arguments today, and prosecutors presented some witnesses.

To start, the prosecution gave an overview of the evidence, hoping to convince the jury that Sherman Lynch ran over is wife, Patricia Rothermich, with a truck he recently bought.

Prosecutors spent most of their time talking to one of the lead investigators in the case.

Detective Mike Anderson, with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, testified that he gathered evidence at the scene, including the victim's jeans that had white paint on them and plastic zip ties, with white paint as well.

Later, the detective said Lynch's girlfriend, whom he was having an affair with, called police to report that he had just bought a white truck. That white truck matched the description of a vehicle seen leaving the hit-and-run.

Prosecutors also presented photo evidence of Lynch's white truck, stored in abandoned house, with significant front-end damage.

But the defense reminded jurors to pay attention to the details that weren't presented. They also stated that Lynch has an alibi: a Costco receipt that shows he was grocery shopping at the time of the crime.

Lynch's girlfriend, Nancy Scott, is scheduled to testify tomorrow.

Neither the prosecution nor the defense would comment today.
