(KSL News) -- Mark Vincent faced charges in court today for torturing his wife's dog.

The dog was allegedly put into a hot an oven for over five minutes. The dog suffered burned paws and a loss of an eye.

Gene Baierschmidt, Director of Humane Society of Utah: "This is definitely a case of torture. Anybody who may shrug their shoulders and say, 'It's just a dog,' tomorrow it could be a wife or an elderly person."

Vincent told the judge he wants a trial. It is scheduled for September 18th.

The wife did not show to the court hearing today because she said she feared seeing her husband. The dog, Henry, is recovering.
