TOOELE — Tooele City has cleared its do-not-drink order for all residents after a break was found in the city's water storage tank during a routine inspection Saturday.

City officials announced Sunday that water samples have all returned clear.

Later Sunday, the city provided more details about the incident online. On Saturday morning, city workers discovered the fence around water tank No. 5 had been cut. "The padlock securing the water tank had been cut, and the padlock dropped into the tank," the city wrote on Facebook.

Tooele said it intends to "prosecute fully" the "criminals who threatened Tooele City's water supply." It asks residents to call sheriff's dispatch at 435-882-5600 with any information.

Residents living south of Vine Street and east of Main Street were advised to drink bottled water Saturday. All other areas outside of the southeast quadrant were on separate water systems and were safe.

"Bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation," the city wrote on Facebook, "until further notice and sample results are available."
