UNDATED (AP) — South Korea has reported 27 new cases of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours. After dozens of recent infections were linked to club goers in Seoul, health workers are scrambling to test thousands of people who visited nightspots in the capital city. Figures released by South Korea’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday brought national figures to 10,936 cases and 258 deaths. At least 1,138 infections have been linked to international arrivals, but such cases have declined after the country strengthened border controls in April. The transmissions linked to club goers have alarmed a country that had eased up on social distancing and scheduled a reopening of schools, which was pushed back by a week to May 20.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is insisting his administration has “met the moment” and “prevailed” on coronavirus testing. The president addressed a Rose Garden audience filled with mask-wearing administration officials on Monday after two known cases of COVID-19 were reported among staffers in one of the most protected complexes in America. Trump said anew that everyone who wants a test can get one, though officials later clarified that to everyone who “needs” a test. Trump commented even as the White House itself became a potent symbol of the risk facing Americans everywhere by belatedly ordering everyone who enters the West Wing to wear a mask.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s fundraising pace has slowed slightly for the second straight month as the nation reels from the coronavirus outbreak. The Trump reelection campaign and the Republican National Committee raised more than $61.7 million in April, a record for the month. It brings Trump's total haul for the cycle to over $742 million. Despite the drop, Trump’s fundraising remains far ahead of likely Democratic challenger Joe Biden. Biden's presidential campaign says it and the Democratic National Committee jointly raised $60 million in April. That’s a solid sum that may ease some Democratic worries that Biden is stumbling in the money race.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is recommending that all nursing home residents and staff be tested for the coronavirus in the next two weeks. Vice President Mike Pence, who leads the White House coronavirus task force, told governors on a video conference call Monday that it’s the federal government’s strong recommendation that such testing be done. Dr. Deborah Birx, the task force coordinator, told governors to focus over the next two weeks on testing all 1 million nursing home residents. She says the White House will help states that need it.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The coronavirus death toll among medical personnel in Mexico has reached 111, and the virus has infected between 8,500 and 15,000 staffers. Assistant Health Secretary Hugo López-Gatell said Monday that 66 doctors, 16 nurses and 29 other hospital staff had died. There are 8,544 confirmed COVID-19 cases among health professionals in Mexico, and another 6,747 suspected cases, many of which are awaiting test results and most of which did not require hospitalization. The country's total coronavirus case load has increased to 36,327 cases, with 3,573 deaths, though officials have acknowledged the true number is probably much higher.
