SOUTH SALT LAKE — Officials on Sunday identified the Orem man who died in South Salt Lake Saturday after clipping a semitruck in his Aston Martin on state Route 201.
Dillon Ashy, 25, was traveling east on 201 at about 800 West. In a news release, the Utah Highway Patrol said he was "swerving through traffic" at a high speed when his front driver side caught the rear passenger side of a semitruck about 12:02 p.m.
"The Aston Martin lost control and spun around going up onto the right shoulder concrete barrier before coming back into traffic and hitting another passenger car," the UHP said.
Though the driver was wearing a seat belt, his door was torn off and the seat belt tore as well. As the vehicle made contact with the wall, the driver was ejected at some point, officials said.
He died at the scene.
The highway patrol estimates the man was traveling about 100 mph in a 65 mph zone "with advisory speed limits signs near the location of 50 mph."
The UHP encouraged drivers to slow down and use caution despite the lessened traffic. Eastbound lanes of state Route 201 were closed while the accident was cleared and have since reopened.
