CEDAR CITY — A man who police say threatened to shoot polygamists and then commit “suicide by cop” has been charged.
Brian Richie Davenport, 44, of Cedar City, was charged Friday in 5th District Court with making a threat of terrorism, a second-degree felony.
On Wednesday, Cedar City police received a tip that Davenport was posting threats on Facebook, according to a police affidavit.
“Brian stated in the post he wanted to shoot and kill polygamists at Lin’s grocery store, shoot the first responding officers, then commit suicide by backup officers. The posts were disturbing enough Lin’s grocery store closed early to protect customers and employees and this caused them a loss in revenue,” the affidavit states.
On Thursday, police arrested Davenport.
Police also stated in the affidavit that “Brian is a substantial threat and danger to the community regarding these threats and states he gets very emotional when intoxicated.”
Police have requested he be held on no bail.
