DRAPER — One woman is in custody Sunday after she ran onto southbound I-15 at 14600 South late Saturday night, causing multiple accidents.

The woman ran into the lanes about 10:53 p.m. Saturday, Utah Highway Patrol trooper Tara Wahlberg said, causing separate two-car and three-car accidents. Wahlberg said the woman made it to the northbound side but was apprehended by a state trooper before she could run into those lanes as well.

Wahlberg said the woman has a history of running onto the highway. “We’ve had lots of dealings with her in the past year,” she said. The woman’s identity was not released.

Wahlberg said the woman has received “mental health help” after past incidents.

In the two-car crash, Wahlberg said, “one of the drivers left his vehicle abandoned and ran to a vehicle that had just stopped to help. He got in the driver’s seat and saw there was a female in the passenger’s seat, so he got out and ran off and fled from the scene.

“Troopers do know who he is, so our investigation unit will be following up with that,” Wahlberg said.
