SOUTH SALT LAKE — One person is dead and another critically injured after a crash in South Salt Lake Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash at 2700 S. 300 West. One of the drivers, 46-year-old Wilonja Lusungu, of Salt Lake City, was transported to the hospital in critical condition, but the other "succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash," according to South Salt Lake Sgt. Matthew Oehler.

The woman who died was identified Thursday as 31-year-old Mavil Labra, of West Valley City, according to a news release from South Salt Lake police.

Lusungu was discharged from the hospital and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of DUI involving serious injury or death, a third-degree felony.

One vehicle involved in the crash apparently failed to obey a traffic signal, and speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, according to a jail report for Lusungu.

Lusungu smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and depressed facial features after the crash, the report states. A breath test was later administrated at the hospital and indicated Lusungu's blood alcohol content was .085 about four hours after the crash, according to the report.

The jail report notes that the crash is still under investigation. Lusungu was released from the hospital Thursday and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of DUI involving serious injury or death, a third-degree felony, according to the Thursday news release.
