WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President George H.W. Bush is returning to Washington as a revered political statesman, hailed by leaders across the political spectrum and around the world as a man not only of greatness but also of uncommon decency and kindness. Bush, who died Friday at age 94, is to be honored with a funeral service in the nation's capital on Wednesday and will be buried Thursday in Texas. On Saturday, he was praised by world leaders and U.S. lawmakers for his accomplishments and his graciousness.

HOUSTON (AP) — Former President George H.W. Bush will be laid to rest Thursday on the grounds of his presidential library at Texas A&M University. The school announced Saturday that Bush will be buried at the family plot next to his wife Barbara, who died in April, and their 3-year-old daughter Robin, who died in 1953. The nation's 41st president didn't attend Texas A&M, but he chose the College Station campus as the library's site in 1991. He died late Friday at age 94.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump say the late President George H.W. Bush "inspired generations of his fellow Americans to public service." Trump, who has had a fractious relationship with the Bush family over the years, set aside any differences Saturday as he praised Bush for his "sound judgment" and "unflappable leadership." Bush died late Friday at age 94. The White House says the Trumps will attend a state funeral for Bush at Washington's National Cathedral on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (AP) — As George H.W. Bush prepared to leave the White House in 1993, he scribbled a personal note to his successor, Bill Clinton, the man who had defeated him. "Dear Bill," the letter began, "When I walked into this office just now I felt the same sense of wonder and respect that I felt four years ago. I know you will feel that, too." The note seeded a friendship that flowered in the decades since, to a point where Clinton said upon Bush's death Friday: "I just loved him."

PARIS (AP) — France's prime minister has cancelled a planned trip to a major U.N. environmental conference in Poland in the wake of his country's worst urban violence in more than a decade. Prime Minister Edouard Philippe's office said he will send the environment minister, Francois de Rugy, in his place to the COP24 meeting in Katowice, Poland. The move came after violent "yellow jacket" protests engulfed Paris, with protesters tagging the Arc de Triomphe with graffiti, torching cars and ransacking stores.
