SALT LAKE CITY — Police identified a man who was hit and killed by a TRAX train Sunday night, officials said.

Nicholas Torres, 25, was talking on the phone and walking with his back to the oncoming train on the tracks near 2400 West and North Temple about 9:45 p.m. He was struck and killed by a westbound Green Line TRAX train, according to Utah Transit Authority spokesman Carl Arky.

The area was very dark, and officials aren’t sure why he was walking on the tracks, Arky said.

The case is still under investigation, and officials have not released any further details.
