HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) — New High Point coach Tubby Smith has hired his son G.G. as his associate head coach.

Smith announced the hiring Friday. The younger Smith spent the past 11 seasons at Loyola of Maryland, assisting Jimmy Patsos for six years before succeeding him and going 56-98 with five straight losing seasons. He resigned in March.

G.G. Smith, 41, played point guard for his father at Georgia in the 1990s and worked with him once before, as a graduate assistant at Kentucky from 2000-02.

The elder Smith called his son "certainly someone I trust to help me run the program."
