TOOELE — Police have arrested a man accused of deliberately backing into his ex-girlfriend's car, running over her new boyfriend.
Kelly Andrews, 43, was arrested in Murray on Sunday, about 20 hours after the crash in Tooele. Court records list Andrews' most recent address as a home in Murray.
Andrews crashed a pickup truck, which was believed to be stolen, into the woman's car near 915 N. Main about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, a Tooele County Jail report states.
Andrews had been swerving toward the other vehicle, forcing it to pull over, said Tooele Police Sgt. Tayna Kalma. When the driver — who is identified in the report as the woman's new boyfriend — got out of the vehicle, Andrews allegedly backed the truck up, hitting the man and the vehicle.
The man who was hit was taken to an area hospital. Police did not release details about his condition, but said he was stable.
The stolen truck was found abandoned in Tooele, and as officers searched for Andrews overnight, he sent several threatening text messages to his ex-girlfriend, according to the report.
"Mr. Andrews continued to send messages to the victim telling her that he wanted to know where they were so he could 'finish this,'" the report states. "Mr. Andrews continued with his messages throughout the night to the victim making threats to harm her and her new boyfriend."
When he was arrested Sunday, police say Andrews was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

In light of the alleged threats and the fact that Andrews was already on probation for a felony offense, a magistrate on Sunday ordered that he be held without bail. He is in custody in the Tooele County Jail.
A search of Utah State Court records shows a lengthy criminal history for Andrews dating back to 1997, including convictions for theft by receiving stolen property, failure to stop for police, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person and receiving a stolen vehicle.
Court records show he pleaded guilty last month to two counts of receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony, as part of his enrollment in drug court. A warrant for his arrest was issued Thursday for failing to comply with the terms of his probation.
