SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Beverage Control is starting a new glass recycling program at one of its locations.
On Tuesday, Momentum Recycling installed glass recycling containers in the parking lot at the Utah State Wine Store at 280 W. Harris Avenue, according to an emailed statement from DABC spokesman Terry Wood.
Momentum Recycling provided the recycling containers for free, and the recycling program won’t cost taxpayers any money, Wood said.
The DABC is committed to recycling, he added. The agency started the program in response to many comments from customers asking for a way to recycle glass.
“Glass recycling drop off spots are few and far between in the Salt Lake Valley,” Wood said in the statement. “Now, DABC customers and others will have a recycling drop off at the location of a store that sells a lot of glass bottles.”
Although only one DABC location is participating in the recycling program so far, it might be expanded to other state liquor store locations in the future, Wood said.
The DABC regularly recycles wine and spirits shipping boxes, Wood said. In 2016, state liquor stores began offering reusable bags to customers.
“The DABC is excited to begin this program,” Wood said. “DABC is entering a new phase by conveniently providing glass recycling containers.”
