PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Delays for commuter rail passengers in Philadelphia will continue into the evening after hundreds were stuck for up to 90 minutes on two commuter trains as a result of downed wires.
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority says about 800 passengers had to be transferred to rescue trains that pulled up alongside the ones that were stranded above ground Thursday morning.
The downed wires caused major delays Thursday morning and a spokesman for the rail company said the trains delays would continue into the evening.
The spokesman says the power lines went down around 8:30 a.m. between two major downtown stations, 30th Street Station and Suburban Station.
A half-dozen SEPTA Regional Rail lines were suspended but are now up and running.
