EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio got a good look at this week's opponent, Western Michigan, when the Broncos hung with Southern Cal last Saturday. Dantonio says Western Michigan's performance was "impressive," and he also remembers how well the Broncos played in a 2015 loss to the Spartans.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Maryland starting quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome is sidelined for the season after tearing his right ACL in the Terrapins' 51-41 upset of Texas last Saturday. The injury occurred in the third quarter at the end of a run. True freshman Hasim Hill will take over as quarterback and start against Towson on Saturday.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz shot back at former broadcaster Ed Cunningham, saying that allegations that the Hawkeyes would subject a player to possible long-term health issues "surprising and offensive." Cunningham said in a story in the New York Times last week that he retired from broadcasting because of his discomfort over the health risks associated with football, and that his last straw was watching limping Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard play in last year's Outback Bowl.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — It took just one game for Iowa's defense to exceed its lofty preseason expectations. Iowa dominated star quarterback Josh Allen and Wyoming in a 24-3 win over the weekend. The Hawkeyes will face Iowa State on the road on Saturday.
