PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — Oregon officials plan to use rock salt this winter on the section of Interstate 84 between Boardman and the Idaho border that is often closed by snow and ice. Oregon Department of Transportation spokesman Peter Murphy tells the East Oregonian that the salt will be used in the mountains when other methods aren't clearing ice and snow.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Authorities in south-central Idaho say a man who shot and killed another man acted in self-defense and will not face homicide charges. But the Twin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney's Office tells The Times-News in a statement on Friday that 45-year-old Billy Duane Johnson is still being charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

WENDELL, Idaho (AP) — Authorities in south-central Idaho say two men are dead in a murder-suicide at the Magic Valley Portuguese Hall in Wendell. Authorities tell The Times-News that 56-year-old Tony Sousa of Wendell and 34-year-old Augustin Nopal Eonu of Paul were killed with a rifle.

CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — Authorities in southwestern Idaho have arrested five men on suspicion of soliciting a prostitute. The Caldwell Police Department tells the Idaho Press-Tribune the arrests on Thursday are part of a sting operation.
