WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is preparing to sign a revised executive order tomorrow barring the entry of people from certain Muslim-majority countries and halting the nation's refugee program. The revised order is expected to remove Iraq from the list of countries whose citizens face a temporary U.S. travel ban. The original ban was halted by the courts following a wave of legal challenges.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Attorneys are seeking the release of an Afghan family of five detained by immigration officials when they arrived at Los Angeles International Airport. The Los Angeles Times reports that the International Refugee Assistance Project filed a petition in federal court on Saturday. It argues that the family was approved for relocation after intense vetting because the father had been employed by the U.S. government in Afghanistan.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Former Stockton, California, Mayor Anthony Silva is in custody after being arrested today at the San Francisco International Airport, where he arrived from a vacation in South America. An arrest warrant was issued for Silva on Thursday on charges of profiteering, embezzlement, misappropriation of public funds and grand theft, among other charges. He will face the charges in San Joaquin County.
NEW YORK (AP) — "Logan" is surpassing expectations at the box office. According to studio estimate, the R-rated "X-Men" spinoff opened with a massive $85.3 million in ticket sales this weekend and ranks among the top March debuts ever. Last week's No. 1 film, "Get Out" dropped to second place but still grossed $26.1 million. The Oscar best-picture winner "Moonlight" had its widest release yet. It turned in its biggest weekend with an estimated $2.5 million.
