PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Brigham Young University's new dining hall is making extra efforts to be environmentally friendly.
The staff at Cannon Commons scrapes leftover food into a pulper so it can be used as compost around campus. At some events, the university uses plates and utensils made with cornstarch and bamboo so they can be thrown in the compost pile with the food.
The facility is also using dish rinsers that use 50 percent less water, Energy Star freezers and reducing the temperature of fryers to save energy.
