RENO, Nev. (AP) — Rainfall has helped crews make progress against a Nevada wildfire that has destroyed 22 homes north of Carson City. Fire officials say the 5.3-square-mile fire is now 20 percent contained, and crews have managed to keep it away from 480 homes. Still, 500 structures remain threatened and mandatory evacuations are still in place.

SEATTLE (AP) — Thousands of residents in the Pacific Northwest are still without electricity after high winds knocked down trees and power lines. Emergency crews in Oregon and Washington worked through the night to clear away trees. But forecasters say the storm wasn't as bad as predicted.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Donald Trump has some choice words for Saturday Night Live. The Republican presidential candidate tweeted early this morning that the show's skit depicting him this week was a "hit job." Trump went on to say it's "time to retire" the show, calling it "boring and unfunny," and adding that Alec Baldwin's portrayal of him "stinks." Last night's show featured a send-up of last Sunday's presidential debate.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Zion National Park's continuing popularity has sparked discussions of limiting the number of visitors. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that park officials are planning several public meetings to discuss how to combat overwhelmed facilities and increased land erosion. Among officials' proposals is to cap the number of daily visitors through a reservation system instead of a first-come first-served basis. The Utah park is expecting a record 4 million visitors this year.

SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho company wants to transform thousands of miles of pavement into a new energy source. Solar Roadways recently unveiled its first public installation in a downtown plaza in the resort town of Sandpoint: 150 square feet of hexagon-shaped solar panels that people can walk and bicycle on. The company is also developing plans to charge electric vehicles as they drive on solar roads.
