WASHINGTON (AP) — Transcripts disclosed by WikiLeaks show Hillary Clinton generally avoided direct criticism of Wall Street as she examined the causes and responses to the financial meltdown during a series of paid speeches to Goldman Sachs. Working to relate to her audience, Clinton in one speech likened her experience as secretary of state to business and finance, saying "it's like anybody's balance sheet," with both opportunities and potential liabilities.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump is announcing a new, multipoint plan to combat drug addiction. Speaking at a rally Saturday in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Trump says he wants the FDA to speed up the approval of abuse-deterring drugs. He also wants to reduce the supply of drugs like oxycodone, and wants to make it harder to mail certain drugs to users and dealers. Trump is also calling for more drug courts and for mandatory addiction treatment.
BEIJING (AP) — China is set to blast two astronauts into space Monday morning. Officials have unveiled plans for the launch of the country's latest space mission. The manned mission will take off aboard a Long March-2F carrier rocket from the launch center on the edge of the Gobi Desert in northern China. The two astronauts will dock with an orbiting Chinese space lab within two days and stay there for 30 days to conduct experiments.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Tens of thousands of people are without power after a windstorm bearing remnants of a Pacific typhoon swept into the Northwest on Saturday. It left a swath of downed trees and powerlines in Oregon and southwest Washington. Some falling trees hit houses. The Washington Department of Transportation says trees came down on Interstate 5 near Olympia, blocking the right lane.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Four people are dead and nine others were injured after an out-of-control pickup truck plunged off the San Diego-Coronado Bridge and nose-dived into a crowd gathered at a park below. The truck landed on a vendor tent set up for a motorcycle festival on Saturday afternoon. The driver was taken to the hospital with major injuries and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence causing deaths and injuries.
